The concept of half round shields:
The half round shields are produced by utilizing a high pressure press and professional mold pressing. Half round shields with bend are formed by bending with a special abrasive on a tube bender. The shields are mostly used on the windward side of the heating surface of the boilers. The main aim is to protect the heating surface of the boiler pipes, reduce erosion of the pipeline and increase the heating surface of the pipes. These shields can be called as special boiler accessories and are mostly used in power station boilers and chemical industries. Generally, these shields are made with thickness ranging from 2mm to 5mm. These are utilized by different customers according to wear down and the requirement of heat conduction. The active service life of this type is different for different types of boilers though the normal life is three to five years. The replacement of the shields is done once they start to loose their actual shape and gets reduced to a size which is less than the prescribed standard type. The main function of this product, with reference to the boilers is protection of the tube from wearing out. In case, some boilers are not equipped with these shields and this fact comes to light at the time of inspection then installation becomes necessary. These are also installed to prevent further wearing of the tubes, the reason being it may cause severe accident like boiler explosion. In case with products like superheater and economizer, there is a risk of the pipes being worn out due to high temperature arising due to flue gas washing. Generally, the half shields are positioned on the outer side of the pipe is the direction in which the flue gas flows. The utilization of these shields can prevent the problem of abrasion of various other instruments like water cooled wall pipes, superheaters, economizers and reheaters.
